Sunday 5elect – Vol. 028

Welcome to this week’s edition of Sunday 5elect, where Economix readers get insight into the top five tracks dominating my headphones right now. This week has a chiller vibe. Enjoy below!

1. ZHU x MIGOS – Bad and Boujee.

Legendary producer and singer ZHU has pulled off the first remix of “Bad and Boujee” that I’ve really liked. It’s a dark, house take on the track that sounds almost nothing like the original, but it bumps hard. Just when you think there’s nothing more to add, ZHU himself pops in with his signature falsetto and guides us into a second chorus with an even more intense beat. Truly an underground house banger.

2. Billie Eilish – Bellyache

Billie Eilish has dropped this lowkey, indie electronica hybrid piece on us and it’s catchy as all hell. Her voice alternates between a dark, sultry sound and a lighter, longing tone as the song’s mood shifts from bemused detachment to melancholy energy. The instrumentals switch up accordingly, making a flawless transition from acoustic guitar strums to rumbling bass. An easy listen for any time.

3. Speaker of the House – Hi

SotH has announced that with this new track “Hi” a new era of his music has begun, filled with diverse music and different forms of house. This song, and the announcement, are a breath of fresh air from an artist with a lot of talent that risked keeping his sound too narrow. “Hi” has the trademarks of a SotH release – light vocal chops, a fun, pulsing beat, and a touch of future bass – but it is distinguishable from much of his older work in a way that hints at progress toward evermore musical achievements.

4. TastyTreat – Fallin’ In Love

TastyTreat have blessed us with a lighthearted valentines celebration of fallin’ in love. Up until the drop I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the wait was worth it. It’s not that the structure of this song is anything crazy unique. The sound is just so clean and catchy you can’t help but get pulled in by the oscillating fills.

5. BENZI – GIRL TRAPZ 11

BENZI (your girlfriend’s favorite DJ) premiered this volume of the legendary GIRL TRAPZ series over Valentines Day weekend and it’s filled with endless fun, energetic drops and tasteful indie EDM selections. This is a great mix for a pregame, hitting that ideal spot between recognizable tracks and weird beats that keep it interesting.
