Sunday 5elect – Vol. 016

Welcome to this week’s edition of Sunday 5elect, where Economix readers get insight into the top five tracks dominating my headphones right now. This week’s selection includes an eclectic mix of great sounds. Enjoy below!

1. Justice – We Are Your Friends (k?d Remix)

Legendary French house duo Justice recently released their first album in five years and it has inspired a slew of EDM artists to pay tribute to the influential artists by re-interpreting some older tracks. k?d sets his eyes on “We Are Your Friends” and pumps it up a notch with pounding synths and filtered, passionate vocals. The original’s disco vibe is still buried in there, but with a more modern twist.

2. FØRD – Oblivion (feat. Rya Park)

This track from FØRD is a chill, funky, upbeat future-influenced track that quietly gets you jamming.

3. Vandelux – Bright Lights

This downtempo house track is full of vibes. The bass is low-key but everpresent, while a smooth beat shakes its way along the high end of the spectrum. The end of the track gets a bit trippy, and feels like a natural extension of the song’s great sound.

4. J. Cole – False Prophets

Legendary chill rapper J. Cole’s new album 4 Your Eyez Only comes out December 9 and to hype us all up he’s released the first track off the LP “False Prophets”. Obviously the focus here is on the lyrics, in which J. Cole takes aim at the false prophets of the rap game – namely Kanye West.

5. Vico – Poke Smot

This mix is not for the faint of heart. It traps harder than almost any mix I’ve ever heard, and it does it well. Only put this on if you’re ready to lose your mind.

Let me know what you think!
