In order to celebrate his track “Old Thing Back” going platinum, Matoma has given us another tropical house treat. Will Smith’s music career was a bit before my time and all I know of his rap style comes from Eminem’s “Real Slim Shady” (Will Smith don’t gotta cuss in his raps to sell records. Well I do, so fuck him and fuck you too). Regardless, Matoma’s take on “Miami” brings his typical saxophone-filled, steel-drum sampling, lighthearted vibe and makes you feel like you’re already at the beach. Matoma lists Will as “one of [his] biggest idols,” and in the past he’s also given his fresh sound to Will’s “Wild Wild West,” a remix that I actually prefer to “Miami.” Either way, the beats are happy, the raps are clean, and its a family-friendly couple of songs that we can all enjoy.
